Third time lucky?

Just a few weeks after our second miscarriage, we found ourselves, somewhat unexpectedly, pregnant again and very scared.  After many phone calls we finally managed to get my test results faxed to my GP, unfortunately she didn’t have the expertise to read them accurately, we would have to wait for my consultant, who was now on leave for Christmas to interpret them.

Once again we had an early scan and all seemed well, we knew from experience though this could soon change.  When I was 7 weeks pregnant I received a phone call from the hospital explaining they had read my blood test results and I had factor V Leiden, a blood clotting condition that can restrict blood flow to the baby and the reason for our previous losses.  We had to attend the hospital that day and receive instructions on how to self-inject heparin throughout the pregnancy to thin my blood.  I would also have to take low dose aspirin until 20 weeks.

Despite a few scares early on, this time things progressed well and at 22 weeks we discovered we were expecting a healthy baby boy.  We enjoyed the remainder of the pregnancy and finally on 25th August, 2 years after our journey to start a family began we welcomed baby George into the world at a very bouncy 9lb 1oz.

We were over the moon, the dreaded baby blues never kicked In, I was on an absolute high, and I couldn’t believe we had finally become parents.  To us he was like Harry Potter “the boy who lived”.
